The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have released a new photograph of Prince George ahead of his second birthday on Thursday.
The photograph shows the Duke of Cambridge holding Prince George in the gardens at Sandringham House and is part of the series of official photographs taken by Mario Testino following Princess Charlotte’s baptism on Sunday 5th July.
“This photograph captures a very happy moment on what was a special day for The Duke and Duchess and their family. They are very pleased to share this picture as they celebrate Prince George’s second birthday,” A spokesman for Kensington Palace commented.
The first official photos of Prince George were taken by his grandfather Michael Middleton in the back garden of the Middletons’ family home in Bucklebury, released just a month after his birth back in 2013.
This past May The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge released four new official photographs of Prince George and Princess Charlotte, taken by the Duchess while they were staying at their country home Anmer Hall, in Norfolk.
The pictures showed Prince George and Princess Charlotte together, with Prince George holding Charlotte.
George Alexander Louis was born at 4:24pm He weighed 8 pounds and 6 ounces. He is third in line to throne after his father, Prince William, and grandfather, Prince Charles.
His christening was held on 23rd October at the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace. George’s Godparents are: Oliver Baker, Emilia Jardine-Paterson, Hugh Grosvenor, Earl Grosvenor, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, Julia Samuel, William van Cutsem and Zara Tindall.
In honouring Prince George’s second birthday, the Royal Mint have released a commemorative sterling silver £5 coin. The limited edition coin depicts a contemporary re-imaging of the St George and the dragon legend by Christopher Le Brun whilst the other side bears the current portrait of Her Majesty The Queen by Jody Clark.
