Prince & Princess of Wales

Music and readings revealed for the christening of Prince Louis

Details of the christening of Prince Louis this afternoon have been announced by Kensington Palace.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have selected two hymns, two lessons and two anthems for Louis’s christening at St James’s Palace. The hymns are “O Jesus, I Have Promised” and “Lord of All Hopefulness.”

The anthems to be sung are John Rutter’s ” This is the day which the Lord hath made” and Gareth Wilson’s Welsh lullaby, “Suo Gân.” The former was composed for the Duke and Duchess’s wedding in April 2011 and will be performed by The Choir of Her Majesty’s Chapel Royal.

R. Vaughan Williams’ “Prelude on ‘Rhosymedre'” will be played as the family enters the Chapel Royal; this song was played at William and Catherine’s wedding and the 1981 wedding of Louis’s grandparents, the Prince and Princess of Wales.

As the family leaves, Prince Johann Ernst von Sachsen-Weimar’s Concerto in G major, BWV 592 will be performed.

For the readings, Lucy Middleton – a cousin of the Duchess of Cambridge – will read from St. Mark 10: 13-16 and Guy Pelly will read Ephesians 3: 14-19. Both Middleton and Pelly have been selected as godparents.

As previously announced, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby will perform the ceremony. The Dean of The Chapel Royal, The Right Reverend and Right Honourable the Lord Chartres, and The Sub-Dean of the Chapel Royal, The Reverend Canon Paul Wright will assist him.

Today is the first time the Cambridge family will be seen as a family of five in public together.
