London’s BT Tower to display Royal Baby announcement

As the world awaits the arrival of Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge’s first child, it has been announced London’s BT Tower will light up after the announcement of the Royal baby.

People in the city of London will be able to look up at the 600ft tower to find out whether the royal couple have welcomed a boy or a girl.

BT Tower will mark the royal baby’s arrival.

“As one of London’s best loved landmarks, it’s only fitting that the BT Tower should celebrate when the city celebrates,” Suzi Williams, director of group marketing and brand at BT explained.

“Since the LED screen at the top was first installed back in 2009 it has counted down from 1000 days to the start of London 2012, and commemorated the Royal wedding and the Diamond Jubilee.

“We’re excited to be sharing news of the royal birth too,” she added.

The BT Tower has a scrolling screen which includes 177 separate panels and 529,750 LED’s which display information, and will be used to tell the city of London the royal baby’s sex.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are currently awaiting the arrival of their first child and on Friday the couple caused a media frenzy when it was reported the couple were en route to London via police escort from Berkshire where they had been residing at Kate’s parents’ house.
Kate is expected to give birth at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, and although the couple have been residing in Berkshire, Palace officials have been keen to stress the couple still plan to travel to the London hospital when Kate goes into labour.
