Kate’s Date: Duchess of Cambridge set for day of engagements in London

The Duchess of Cambridge will be busy on Tuesday 27th October as she attends not one but two events in aid of two charities that she supports. The first engagement of the day will see the Duchess travel to Islington to meet children and mentors from Chance UK’s early intervention programme. Later on in the day, Kate will make her way to the Victoria and Albert Museum where she will attend the 100 Women in Hedge Funds Gala Dinner in aid of The Art Room.

Chance UK is a charity that operates an early intervention programme to tackle the challenging behaviour of primary school-aged children through individual mentoring and family support. During her time at Islington Town Hall, the Duchess of Cambridge will be given an introduction to Chance UK’s early intervention programme and how the charity improves children’s lives by introducing greater stability and support.

During her time in Islington, Her Royal Highness will meet a selection of children enrolled on the Chance UK scheme, as well as their parents and mentors. A reception will also be put on for Kate, to celebrate the work of the charity and also giving the Duchess the chance to meet some of the charity’s staff and supporters.

Chance UK provides weekly one to one mentoring for children with a trained adult volunteer, which work towards achieving defined goals that are specific to each child’s needs. 200 children from across six London boroughs benefit from Chance UK’s work every year.

Following her time in Islington, The Duchess of Cambridge will make her away across London to the Victoria and Albert Museum where she will attend the 100 Women in Hedge Funds Gala Dinner in aid of The Art Room. The Duchess is Patron of the Women in Hedge Funds Philanthropic Initiatives. Before her gala dinner, Her Royal Highness will present the 100WHF 2015 European Industry Leadership Award.

The Duke of Cambridge became Patron of 100 Women in Hedge Funds Philanthropic Initiatives in 2009 and in 2012, he was joined by The Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry as Patrons. 100 Women in Hedge Funds is committed to focusing its UK philanthropic endeavours on three chosen charities, one for each year of the partnership. Those charities are Action on Addiction, WellChild and The Art Room, all of which are part of the Charities Forum of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.

Proceeds from this year’s Gala Dinner at the Victoria and Albert Museum will go to The Art Room, of which Kate is also Patron. The Art Room charity offers art as a therapy to children who are suffering from emotional and behavioural difficulties in order to increase their self-esteem and confidence. Kate became Patron of the charity back in 2012.

The news of The Duchess of Cambridge’s engagements at the end of October come just after it was revealed she may be attending her first State Banquet that will be honouring Chinese leader, Xi Jinping.
