After last night’s announcement of a new little Prince for the Royal Family, James has emerged as the new favourite for William and Kates’s first child’s name.
The Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to a healthy baby boy on Monday afternoon weighing 8Ibs 6oz. Previously it had been the bookies’ suggestion that Kate was expecting a baby girl, with more bets being placed on the arrival of a little Princess, however many bookies’ have now seen a surge of bets being placed on the boy’s name.
During the last few weeks George had been the favourite, however now James has overtaken its lead and has been given odds of 2/1.
Last night bookmakers Coral revealed the royal baby’s birth had given them their biggest non-sporting event ever, with bets being placed on name, baby’s arrival, hair colour and weight.
Paddy Power also revealed they took £390,000 in bets in the three hours after it was announced Kate was in labour.
Landmarks across the city lit up blue to honour the Cambridge’s first child, with the London Eye and Trafalgar Square leading the celebrations.
It is likely the new parents will leave the Lindo Wing later today with Kate’s hairdresser reportedly arriving at around 9.30am.
