Prince & Princess of Wales

From a Kiwi Perspective – Day One

<![CDATA[large_7034384915Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge flew today from the United Kingdom to New Zealand via Australia. Along with their son Prince George, they travelled to Australia aboard a QANTAS flight, which was met at the airport by a New Zealand Royal Air Force jet, which took them the rest of the way to New Zealand. They flew into the country, and were treated to an official welcome at Government House.
The last time the couple was on an official tour overseas was in 2012, when they visited Singapore, Tuvalu and The Solomon Islands and Malaysia on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen on the occasion of her Diamond Jubilee. Prince William last visited New Zealand in 2011 shortly after the devastating Christchurch Earthquake.
While Prince William has made several formal and informal trips to New Zealand, this is the first time either The Duchess of Cambridge or Prince George has made a trip to the Commonwealth Realm in either an official or unofficial status, and the country was buzzing to catch a glimpse of one of the world’s most famous and photographed families.
The family will be in New Zealand from today (07/04/2014) until the 16th, when they will fly to Australia to continue their tour. While in New Zealand they will visit a number of cities and regions including:

Sir Jerry Mateparae and Prime Minister John Key

Sir Jerry Mateparae and Prime Minister John Key

  • Wellington – the countries capital where they will stay at Government House – a beautiful building which serves as the official residence of the Governor-General and his wife Sir Jerry and Lady Mateparae
  • Auckland – the largest city in the country where the couple will, among other events, attend a boat race by Team New Zealand
  • Waikato – a region in central New Zealand (North Island) where the couple will split and attend two different events in Hamilton, and then region in Cambridge (aptly named) to open the new velodrome
  • Christchurch – the beautiful city recently devastated by a horrific earthquake killing and wounding a number of residents, and leaving the rest thoroughly shaken – the city is still being rebuilt

I will be following the tour from my home of Hamilton, Waikato and even seeing the family in Auckland, Hamilton and Cambridge for myself. I will attempt to post each day with the latest news and developments; for more see Monarchy New Zealand and/or HotMonarchy.
