The Duke of Cambridge has been nominated this week for the Celebrity Dad of the Year 2018 award just weeks after welcoming his third child.
The Duke of Cambridge is a loving father to Prince George, four, Princess Charlotte, three, and Prince Louis who was born in April this year. He is said to be a very hands-on father, taking time off after the birth of Prince Louis to spend quality time with his son. This meant that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge did not hire a nanny.
He told reporters outside the Lindo Wing after Prince Louis was born that “it’s thrice the worry!”.
The Duke of Cambridge has some tough competition, however, with there being an array of popular household names that have also made the shortlist for the award.
Britain’s Got Talent judges Simon Cowell and David Walliams are nominated alongside the Duke of Cambridge. Simon Cowell has a son, Eric, who is four-years-old, and David Walliams also has a son, Alfred, who is four-years-old.
Two widowed fathers have also been nominated for the Celebrity Dad of the Year award: footballer Rio Ferdinand and presenter Simon Thomas.
Rio Ferdinand lost his wife Rebecca in 2015 following her battle with breast cancer and has since won a TV BAFTA for his heart-breaking documentary Being Mum and Dad. The documentary focuses on the footballer bring up his three young children alone.
Simon Thomas lost his wife Gemma suddenly in November 2017, three days after she had been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia. The presenter was left to bring up their 8-year-old son, Ethan, alone.
Also nominated for the award is singer Liam Payne who has a son with Cheryl Tweedy, and heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua who has a two-year-old son, Joseph.
We will have to wait till next month to see if the Duke of Cambridge wins the title of Celebrity Dad of the Year 2018.
