A new cookbook, The Dragons’ Kitchen, features a contribution from Prince William – but not in the way you’d expect!
The 32 year-old Prince has written the foreword to the new book, which is a collection of recipes put together by Welsh Rugby players in order to raise money for the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust (WRCT). The Duke of Cambridge is Patron of the trust, which was set up in 1972, with the aim to support the families of those rugby players who have been injured while playing the sport in Wales.
Among the Welsh rugby stars to contribute to the book are Sam Warburton, with his recipe for Chilli Con Carne; Alex Cuthbert with his Cheesy Pasta Bake, and Richard Hibbard with a recipe for a Spicy Veggie Burger. Even a few ex-players got into the act, with Gareth Thomas including a recipe for White Chocolate Berry Cheesecake, Richard Parks writing one for Welsh Roast Lamb and Derek Quinnell revealing how to made Madora’s Risolles.
Other recipes include Gwyn Jones’s Lebanese Salad; Adam Jones’s Pulled Pork with Spicy Coleslaw; Gareth Edwards’s Vichyssoise Vert; Richard Vowles’s Mushroom Soup; George North’s Carrot Cake; Martyn Williams’s Family Fish Pie; Alun Wyn Jones’s Apple Tart, and Shaun Parry-Jones’s Prawn and Crayfish Tail Salad.

International players representing Welsh rugby from 1950 to the present day, along with some of the injured players have been delighted to share their favourite recipes in this book.”
In addition to writing the foreword, The Duke of Cambridge has given permission for the use of the special recipe for Chocolate Biscuit Cake. The cake is a favourite of Her Majesty’s and the recipe is the same one that was used at The Duke’s wedding in 2011.
“The guiding principle of the WRCT is to enhance the quality of life of players who have suffered severe injuries while playing rugby,” said Dennis Gethin, the president of the WRU. “On behalf of the Trustees, I should like to thank the Duke of Cambridge, our Patron, for his wonderful support and our grateful thanks also go to the Welsh Rugby Union for their continued financial assistance.”
The Dragons’ Kitchen, which features over 60 recipes, can be purchased online for £20. All proceeds from the sale of the book will go towards the WRTC.
