Duke of Cambridge attends Norfolk wedding without the Duchess

Prince William

The Duchess of Cambridge opted to spend time with Prince George and pop in to Peter Jones in London to perhaps pick up a few bits for her little prince as her husband attended the wedding of James Mead and Lady Laura Marsham in Norfolk.

The Duke, Prince Harry and the Duchess’ sister Pippa Middleton, were in attendance at the Church of St Nicholas in Gayton. Rumours were abound that the Duchess was to attend the wedding of two of the couple’s closest friends, but she decided to remain in London with her son. Prince William participated in the ceremony and was one of 15 ushers.

The friendship of James Meade and Prince William dates back to their days at Eton College. Meade is also well known for accompanying the Duchess to the Badminston Horse Trials during her temporary spilt from Prince William in 2007. It is rumoured that Meade might be asked to be one of Prince George’s Godfathers. James Meade is the son of former Olympic gold medallist equestrian Richard Meade.

Lady Laura Marsham is the daughter of the 8th Earl of Romney. She is also a supporter of the Tusk Trust for which Prince William has been a patron since 2005.

The ushers, along with the groom, were transported via a shooting party trailer for the five mile trip from Lady Laura’s family home at Gayton Hall to the Dappling Duck pub, where they enjoyed a two hour lunch before heading back to the church for the ceremony. The bride, accompanied by her father, Julian Marsham, 8th Earl of Romney, walked from the hall to the church.

After the hour long ceremony, the newly married Mr and Lady Laura Meade, along with guests including Prince William, Prince Harry and Pippa Middleton, walked the short distance to Gayton Hall for the wedding reception.
