Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to visit Cornwall and Isles of Scilly

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very much looking forward to visiting Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly on 1 and 2 September, Kensington Palace have announced.

The trip to South West England will be marked by the Cambridges’ first visit to projects in the Duchy of Cornwall, a private estate which funds a range of charitable and private activities of the Prince of Wales, who became the 24th Duke of Cornwall when the Queen ascended to the throne in 1952.

A busy agenda will open with a visit to Truro, the Duchy’s only city, where Prince William and Kate will visit Truro Cathedral- built between 1880 and 1910- to meet civic dignitaries and cathedral representatives.

The Royal couple are also expected to meet with a number of local businesses and organisations working with young people, including the Wave Project, a charity that uses local surfers to help young people anxiety and improve their emotional health. During the visit, TRH will be introduced to beneficiaries from the charity’s programmes and attend surfing activities by children and their surf-mentors.

On the second day, the Duke and Duchess will visit the Porthmellon beach, on the west coast of St. Mary’s, Isles of Scilly, where they are expected to meet locals from St Mary’s Gig Club who take part in gig rowing, one of the traditional sports on the Scilly Isles.

This engagement will be followed by a visit to St Mary’s Harbour, where the Duke and Duchess will attend a small Scilly Isles food festival and chat with local producers.

A series of visits to local attractions and businesses on the archipelago will conclude with a tour around St Martin’s Community Centre, a local hub for residents and visitors who come enjoy sports and reading facilities.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte are not expected take part in the visit.

Prince Harry was not mentioned but it would be nice for him to join them in Scotland. Maybe has other duties to attend to.
