Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to attend Royal Premiere of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will attend the Royal and UK premiere of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom in Leicester Square on December 5.

Prince William and Kate will leave four-month-old Prince George at home for the evening as they attend the anticipated film’s first showing, which is this year’s chosen Royal Film Performance.

Before the screening, the royal couple will meet the film’s stars including Idris Elba, who plays Nelson Mandela and Naomie Harris who portrays Winnie Mandela.

They will also meet the movie’s director Justin Chadwick and Nelson Mandela’s daughter Zindzi Mandela.

Money raised from this year’s event will go to the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund, which supports industry employees and their loved ones through times of hardship and the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, which provides a better future for children living in South Africa.

The film premiere comes as the Duke and Duchess continue to increase their royal duties to support The Queen and Prince Philip.

Prince William will be joined by Kate when they visit the charity Only Connect’s head office in London on November 19. The royal parents will speak to staff at the charity which focuses on crime prevention and hear how the organisation supports ex-offenders and those who are at risk of offending.

A week later on November 26, the new father will host Bon Jovi and Taylor Swift at Kensington Palace for Centrepoint’s Winter Whites Gala.

The Duchess of Cambridge will also go solo when she attends Place2Be’s ‘Resilience and Emotional Strength in Schools’ forum at the offices of Clifford Chance in Canary Wharf, on November 20.
