Duke and Duchess of Cambridge enjoy a day out at men’s Wimbledon final

On Sunday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took to the Royal Box at Wimbledon’s Centre Court to watch the gripping men’s final between Serbia’s Novak Djokovic and South Africa’s Kevin Anderson.

The former took the title, beating Anderson 6-2 6-2 7-6 (7-3). This is Djokovic’s 13th Slam and his first major since the 2016 French Open.

Both the Duke and Duchess seemed to thoroughly enjoy the match, with them both laughing and cheering throughout. The couple are keen sports fans, with the Duchess of Cambridge being a patron of Wimbledon and the Duke of Cambridge being the president of the Football Association.

Before the match started, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were seen talking to former Australian tennis player Rod Laver, who won the men’s singles at Wimbledon four times in the 1960s. He also won the doubles once and mixed doubles twice.

The Men’s Singles Final at Wimbledon is seen as the main court battle, and so it often attracts members of the royal family as well as celebrities. In the Royal Box with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were Prime Minister Theresa May and actors Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hiddleston and Eddie Redmayne.

The Duchess also attended the women’s final on Saturday with her sister-in-law, the Duchess of Sussex. This was their first public engagement together without their husbands or other members of the royal family.

The pair cheered on America’s Serena Williams, who is a close friend of the Duchess of Sussex, in her match against Germany’s Angelique Kerber. Unfortunately for Serena, it was Angelique that was crowned Wimbledon champion with a 6-3 6-3 victory.
