Duke And Duchess Of Cambridge Advertise For New Staff

It was reported today that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke And Duchess Of Cambridge are advertising for help in their household in the form of a footman-cum-silverware-cleaner.

The Daily Mail newspaper reports that as the Duke and Duchess prepare to move into their new apartment (1A) at Kensington Palace (Princess Margaret’s old apartment) and with a new Royal baby on the way, Their Royal Highnesses are scouting for a new reliable and discreet footman to come and work in the royal couple’s new apartments.

The job description states: ‘must polish silverware and glassware, remain loyal, and ensure ‘all areas of the residence are cleaned and maintained to a high standard at all times’.

The royal couple have always insisted they will try to keep staffing to an absolute minimum, preferring to rely on their own devices. With the duchess’s pregnancy advancing, however, and the Duke’s commitments increasing, this is not something that can be completely removed from the royals’ lives.

The average salary for a footman with this sort of work is around £14,000 per annum, with the average salary in the UK being around £26,000, this is well below the average, but above the minimum wage, which is around £12,000 per year.
