Duchess of Cambridge’s labour ‘progressing as normal’

The Duchess of Cambridge’s labour is “progressing as normal” a spokesman for the couple has confirmed.

As we reported this morning, Kate was admitted to the Lindo Wing at around 5.30am, with the official statement confirming the news at around 7.30am.

The Royal Baby is on the way.

Prince William is currently by his wife’s side and the couple travelled by car to the hospital from Kensington Palace. The parents-to-be have been staying at the Palace in the past few days.

The official press release said, “Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge has been admitted this morning to St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, London in the early stages of labour.”

“The Duchess travelled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital with The Duke of Cambridge.”

Pregnant Kate made her last official public appearance in mid-June, when she attended the annual Trooping the Colour to celebrate the Queen’s birthday.

Since then, the mum-to-be has been preparing for the arrival of her and Williams child. The Duchess has been putting the final touches to the couple’s new home at Kensington Palace and Kate has been spending time at her parents’ house in Bucklebury, Berkshire.

Earlier this month, it was confirmed the child will become ‘HRH Prince/Princesss (name) of Cambridge’ and the child will become third-in-line for the throne after Prince Charles and Prince William.

William and Kate first announced they were expecting their first child in December 2012, when the Duchess was admitted to hospital after suffering severe morning sickness.

The Queen will likely be pleased with this confirmation of labour now as she is going to Balmoral Castle on Friday and may not have had a chance to see the Royal Baby otherwise.

Two police officers have now taken up post outside the main entrance of the Lindo Wing and there is a stronger police presence in general.

We will update you with more info as we know more.
