Duchess of Cambridge to attend The Portrait Gala 2014

The Duchess of Cambridge is to return to royal duties on February 11 as she attends The Portrait Gala, at the National Portrait Gallery.

New mum Kate, who has been focusing on Prince George, will attend the event as patron and will attend a reception at the London gallery before the gala.

During the reception Kate, who recently celebrate a thousand days as the Duchess of Cambridge, will meet guests including David Bailey, Olympic Gold medalist Katherine Grainger and Jonathan Yeo.

The engagement is one of the few engagements the royal mum will be undertaking while Prince William completes his ten-week Agricultural Management course at the University of Cambridge.

“For the Duchess, the next ten weeks is about focusing on baby George,” a royal source revealed earlier this year.

The Duchess, who had a busy schedule in the run-up to Christmas, is expected to attend a handful of official engagements before increasing her workload in the spring, to coincide with the couple’s visit to Australia and New Zealand in April.

Kate, who gained a degree in the History of Art, has been patron of the National Portrait Gallery since January 2012 and has made several visits to the London gallery.

In January 2013, her first portrait, by Paul Emsley was unveiled at the gallery provoking a mixed reaction, however the Duchess revealed she thought it was “amazing”.
