Duchess of Cambridge to attend opening of 42nd Street in support of the Nook Appeal

As the Royal Patron of EACH Hospices, the Duchess of Cambridge will attend the opening night performance of the popular Broadway show, 42nd Street. Starring Grammy Award-winning singer Sheena Easton, the show will be performed at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane on Tuesday, 4th April.

Executive Producer of 42nd Street, Dr Johnny Hon, said in the press release from EACH: “We are delighted to support the Nook Appeal on the opening night of 42nd Street, and we are honoured to be joined by the Duchess of Cambridge as the charity’s Royal Patron.”

The Duchess’s attendance is in support of the Nook Appeal, an initiative which began in 2014 to fundraise £10 million for a new hospice facility that will be called The Nook. EACH has outgrown its facilities in Quidenham in Norfolk; this new building will provide the same care as the current hospice and those services in Cambridgeshire, Essex and Suffolk.

The Nook Appeal still needs £5 million to meet its goal. A generous donor has pledged £250,000 towards the campaign. During the running of 42nd Street, Michael Linnit and Michael Grade, along with The Global Group of Companies for Gate Ventures, will be supporting the campaign.

EACH Chief Executive Graham Butland said in the press release: “We are very much looking forward to welcoming Her Royal Highness at the Theatre Royal for what I’m sure will be an exceptional evening for the Nook Appeal.

“This is an amazing opportunity for EACH, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who has worked so hard to make our involvement possible, including Dr Johnny Hon, Lord Michael Grade, Michael Linnit, Geoff Morrow and all their colleagues – not forgetting the incredible cast! It is fantastic that we have already received a very generous donation, and we hope that during the evening the audience will help us raise even more money to make our vision a reality – it would be wonderful if with the support of everyone involved we could reach £420,000!

“The Nook Appeal will transform children’s palliative care across Norfolk, but we still have some way to go, which is why we are so excited to be embarking on a relationship with the whole team at 42nd Street.”
