Duchess of Cambridge spends Valentine’s Day away from Prince William as she opens new Art Room

After returning to royal duties on Tuesday, the Duchess of Cambridge visited a school in Ealing on Friday morning to officially open a new Art Room.

Kate, 32, arrived looking elegant in a blue dress by LK Bennet and black suede heels at Northolt High School in West London.

The new mum was met with huge applause as she entered the school hall with the schoolchildren clapping and cheering for their royal visitor. After saying hello to the children, the Duchess moved on to view the new ICAP Art Room.

The Art Room is a national charity that offers art therapy to children and young people from ages 5 to 16, who are facing a challenging time in their lives.

The Duchess, who became a mum last year, has been patron of the charity since 2012 and has made several visits around the country to see the charity at work.

After it was announced Kate would become patron, Kensington Palace explained the Duchess chose the charity as it “reflects her interest in arts and her particular interest in using creativity of art to enrich the lives of young people”.

While Kate was in West London, Prince William was spotted with his brother Prince Harry in Datchet helping the Army move sandbags to badly affected flood areas.

Although not announced by the Palace, a spokesman for the two confirmed they had ”wanted to help with relief effort and felt the best way was through the Army”.

Earlier this week, the wife of Prince William made her first appearance of 2014 as she attended the Portrait Gala.

Arriving solo, the Duchess dazzled in an ink-blue Jenny Packham dress that sparkled with a diamond necklace borrowed from The Queen.
