Duchess of Cambridge named UK’s top beauty icon for third year in a row

The Duchess of Cambridge has been named the UK’s top beauty icon of 2013, winning the accolade for a third year in a row.

New mum Kate, who this year gave birth to Prince George, was crowned the title after seeing off competition from This Morning’s Holly Willoughby and her own sister, Pippa Middleton.

“Kate [Middleton] has secured her place in the nation’s hearts,” Simon Comins of Superdrug, who conducted the Beauty Icons of 2013 study, explained. “And she has cemented her position as a beauty icon.”

“The Duchess is always immaculately presented, but it is styled in a way the average person can relate to, and take inspiration from.”

He added: “Our customers definitely take note of Kate’s look.”

The title comes after a busy year for the Duchess who this summer welcomed her first son, Prince George, with husband the Duke of Cambridge.

In July, just a day after giving birth, Kate was praised as she left hospital with William and George showing her post-birth bump.

As she left with Lindo Wing, the royal mum revealed the experience had been “very emotional” and added Prince William had made a “very good” first attempt at a nappy change.

Kate, William and five-month-old George are currently at Sandringham in Norfolk with the Royal Family for Christmas.

The couple appeared in high spirits on Christmas Day as they walked hand-in-hand to the local church for the annual Christmas morning service.

As they left the church, the popular parents spoke to well-wishers who had gathered to catch a glimpse of the Royals.

William told one member of the crowd: “We’ve had a good morning with George and I can’t wait until next year when he’s bigger.”

The Duchess, who looked elegant in an Alexander McQueen coat and green fascinator by Gina Foster, told another well-wisher little George had been more interested in wrapping paper than his presents.

The couple were spending this year’s Christmas Day with the Royals after spending it with Kate’s family in Berkshire last year, as the Duchess recovered from a bout of severe morning sickness.

After this year’s festive period, the proud parents are expected to return to London where they will begin preparations for their newly-announced April 2014 tour of Australia and New Zealand.
