Duchess of Cambridge gets hospital discount for second royal baby

The birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s second child is one of the most awaited events of the year. And although William and Kate are members of the British Royal Family, they aren’t exempt from paying their bills – and a discount from the hospital is certainly welcome!

The Duchess has been offered a ten percent loyalty discount by St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, where she has chosen to give birth to her second child. The hospital offers the discount to any parents who choose to have both their first and second child in St Mary’s.

For George’s birth in 2013, Kate opted for a two room suite in the private Lindo Wing. The same suite now costs £6,570 for a normal delivery and an overnight stay – about £5,913 after the 10 percent discount. The growing family will be charged an additional £6,000 as a consultant’s fee.

The Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital is a private maternity and paediatric ward, which provides quality surgical and medical care. It first opened in 1937 and had room for 66 patients. Today, the Lindo Wing is a popular choice for a number of politicians, entertainers and important members of society.

The new baby’s father, Prince William was born in the Lindo Wing in 1982. William was the first heir to the throne born in a hospital. His younger brother, Prince Harry, as well as the children of Princess Anne, The Duchess of Gloucester and Princess Michael of Kent were born in the Lindo Wing.

The Duchess of Cambridge will be cared for by a team lead by Guy Thorpe-Beeston, who is the surgeon-gynaecologist to the household and who also assisted during Prince George’s birth.

Earlier today, parking restrictions were put up in front of the Lindo Wing. The press have been prevented from gathering in front of the hospital to ensure that everything goes smoothly when Catherine is admitted.
