The Duchess of Cambridge this evening attended the annual SportsBall gala for SportsAid, the charity of which Her Royal Highness is patron, at Embankment Gardens, London, where she presented the One to Watch award in front of dozens of assembled guests.

Catherine, who has recently began to step up the number of public engagements she does after the birth of Prince George, arrived just before 7 o’clock in a black knee length dress and high heels. She was greeted at the entrance by Olympians before heading inside to watch over the event.

Kate’s outfit, described as a black Templeton dress by Alice Temperley, was a new one for her.

The Duchess of Cambridge has been patron of SportsAid since April of this year and has played a part in several events for the charity since taking up the patronage.

SportsAid helps the next generation of British sports stars by giving them financial support and recognition during the critical early years of their careers.

The SportsBall event is SportsAid’s longest running and most successful annual event.

It celebrates the achievements of the athletes the charity has supported over the years and looks to the future by shining a light on the talent and promise within the next generation.

Catherine presented the ‘One-to-Watch’ Award, which honours a young British sportsman or woman who has demonstrated extraordinary commitment to their sport and career during her visit.

Kate’s Arrival

Nominees for this year’s One-to-Watch Award were 16-year-old shooter Amber Hill, 17-year-old pole vaulter Harry Coppell and 18-year-old rower Jess Leyden.

Despite the cold, the media and members of the public turned out in their droves to greet the Duchess of Cambridge as she arrived.

Next week, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will attend the Royal Film Performance 2013 – the UK Premiere of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, at the Odeon Leicester Square in London. With another joint engagement rumoured with the Irish Guards in early December, it continues to look like William and Kate are moving towards full time royal duties.
