Duchess of Cambridge attends first solo engagement since birth of Prince George

The Duchess of Cambridge attended her first solo engagement on Friday morning since the birth of Prince George.

New mother Kate left three-month-old George at home while she visited the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in East London as her first engagement as patron of SportsAid.

The Duchess dazzled in a Ralph Lauren Breton-style top, blue skinny jeggings and a pair of Russell and Bromley heels and she didn’t let her high heels get in the way of a good game when she joined players in a match of Volleyball.

As Kate arrived she took time to meet young athletes who are supported by the charity and spent time chatting with all the sportive youngsters who seemed very excited to meet the wife of Prince William.

During the visit to the Olympic Park, the Duchess watched the youngsters, who are tipped as the country’s next Olympians and Paralympians as they took part in wheelchair basketball, football and badminton.

It was then the turn of Kate, who joined in a game of volleyball, not letting her high heels get in the way, the Duchess showed her sportive side as she scored a ‘spike’.

Today’s event was organised by SportsAid and Kate was keen to attend the event, after becoming patron of the organisation earlier this year.

She will join the young athletes in workshops this afternoon, as they are educated on nutrition and social media training in sport.

Friday’s engagement was Kate’s first solo and third outing since the birth of Prince George. Last month, the Duchess joined Prince William at the Tusk Trust Awards in London. Kate dazzled in a glittery floor-length gown as she arrived on the red carpet for the event which honoured people involved with the charity.

While making a speech, Prince William joked: “This is actually our first evening without him, so please excuse us if you see us nervously casting cheeky glances at our mobile phones to check all is well back home.”

Next week, William and Kate will be joined by The Queen and close family at Prince George’s christening.

The 45-minute service will take place in the Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace. Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry are expected to attend the gathering, while Princess Anne and the Countess of Wessex will miss the ceremony due to prior engagements.
