The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby will conduct George’s christening.

“It is a great privilege and honour and will without doubt be an occasion of immense joy and celebration.

“I am looking forward to welcoming him into the family of the church.”

Last week, Prince William and wife the Duchess of Cambridge confirmed plans for George’s christening, which will take place on October 23.

A statement from Kensington Palace revealed the new parents were “pleased” to announce their son’s christening would take place at The Chapel Royal at St James’s Palace.

It is believed Prince William and Kate chose the chapel at St James’s Palace as they simply preferred the intimate and personal setting. The Chapel also happens to be where William’s mother Diana, Princess of Wales’s body rested prior to her funeral in September 1997.

“The Chapel Royal offers Prince William a connection with his painful past and an opportunity to ensure his son’s christening is an intimate affair,” the BBC’s royal correspondent Peter Hunt explained.

During the christening, Prince George will wear a replica of Queen Victoria’s 1841 Honiton lace and white satin gown that was made for Victoria’s eldest daughter Victoria, The Princess Royal.

Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex’s son Viscount Severn became the first royal baby to use the new robe at his christening in 2008.

While the service will be a private affair, photos of the Duke and Duchess, George and the Royal Family will be unveiled shortly after.

It is believed a photo of The Queen with the three heirs, Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince George is being planned.
