A glimpse of William and Catherine’s wedding up for auction

A glimpse into the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge is about to go under the auctioneer’s hammer. A menu from the meal that took place after their marriage is up for sale this week, and it’s expected to go for at least 1,000 US dollars, around £650 at today’s exchange rate.

The menu card is one of those laid out for the guests who joined the newlyweds for this special meal at Buckingham Palace following their marriage. And while millions around the world watched William and Kate say ‘I do’, just 300 people were present at this dinner afterwards.

And those who sat down to dinner were treated to the special meal with a starter of marinated South Uist salmon, Lyme Bay crab and wild Hebridean langoustines followed by North Highland Mey Select organic lamb and finished off with a trio of puddings – Berkshire honey ice cream, sherry trifle and chocolate parfait.

The card also details the wines that guests were served – on the list was a Meursault, Domaine Guyot-Javillier 2009, l’Hospitalet de Gazin, Pomerol 2004 and Laurent Perrier Rose champagne. And if that was all rather heavy going, fresh mint tea was served at the end to help the dinner go down.

It’s not been revealed which of the guests at the dinner is selling this piece of royal wedding history but whoever they are, they apparently enjoyed their dinner because there is a small stain on one part of the card. But so many years on, it’s impossible to tell whether it was the lamb or the chocolate parfait that led to the mark!

The card also shows the informal nature of this evening meal as beneath the Prince of Wales’ crest at the top of the menu are the names of the bride and groom, written out simply as ‘William and Catherine’.

The menu card is being auctioned by Nate D. Saunders Auctions, and online bids are being accepted until October 29th.
