Queen Advertises Job Vacancy For £14,200/year ‘Washer-Upper’

Blogger

All manner of strange and rare jobs become available from time to time on the Royal Website’s employment section, from The Queen’s driver to in this case, The Royal ‘Washer-Upper’.

On the job description, it says, “you must be willing to work away at other royal residences for approximately 3 months of the year.”, the salary for this job is however, in true Royal Household fashion, disappointingly low, a mere £14,200 per year for 40 hours a week of work.

The official job title is “General Catering Assistant (Wash-up)”, as listed on the Royal Household’s Job Vacancies section.

The desired criteria for this washer-up is:

  • be punctual and reliable
  • be able to work well in a team and have a flexible and willing attitude
  • be happy to travel and work at other Royal residences in the UK and at weekends
  • have experience of a similar type of role (desirable).

job

By Royal Household standards, this is one of the less odd jobs. Historically, such posts within the Royal Household have included Chocolate-Maker, ‘Groom Of The Stool’ and even Lion Keeper. More modern day posts within the Royal Household have included eco gardener and the glamorous sounding, ‘Head of Royal Travel’.

Working within the Royal Household is always fiercely competitive, according to many who worked there. There is always fierce competition for the top jobs with the Queen and other members of the Royal Family, though this job being advertised is washer-upper for the staff canteen, which obviously reduces the chances of a Royal encounter to almost null.
