The Royal Week – Monday 20th May


Her Majesty The Queen and Their Royal Highnesses The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester are visiting the Chelsea Flower Show in London. A garden created by Jinny Blom for Prince Harry’s charity Sentebale is among the exhibits.

The Duke of Edinburgh is hosting a Regimental Council Meeting at Buckingham Palace for the Grenadier Guards. His Royal Highness, Colonel of the Grenadier Guards, is also attending the 1st Guards Club dinner at the Cavalry and Guards Club in London.

The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry are opening four new Help for Heroes Recovery Centres in Wiltshire. Their Royal Highnesses will meet wounded service personnel, veterans and their families and tour the Recovery Centre to see the practical support provided by the charity.

Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex is attending a lunch in London given by Action on Hearing Loss. The event is marking the end of Her Royal Highness’s Vice Patronage of the charity.

The Duke of Edinburgh is visiting Southampton today. The Duke will visit the Ship Handling Centre at Timsbury Lake, a facility that trains masters and officers on ships and large yachts. His Royal Highness will see a Wingsail demonstration, a form of marine propulsion which uses a structure with an airfoil cross-section instead of traditional sails.

Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duke of Cambridge are hosting a wildlife conference in the State Apartments of St James’s Palace. The conference aims to form a worldwide partnership to stop the illegal trade in wildlife, a trade which threatens nature and global security.

His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex is visiting the United States of America. Prince Edward will carry out various engagements until 24 May.

Her Majesty The Queen is hosting a garden party at Buckingham Palace today.

The Duchess of Cornwall is attending a Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral to celebrate 75 years of the charity WRVS, formerly the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service. Her Royal Highness, President of the charity, is meeting volunteers at a reception after the service. WRVS volunteers support older people across the United Kingdom, helping them live independent lives.

Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal is visiting Portsmouth.  The Princess is Patron of The National Museum of the Royal Navy and will visit the re-development of the Modern Navy Galleries at Her Majesty’s Naval Base. Princess Anne is also attending the Annual General Meeting of the Women’s Royal Naval Service Benevolent Trust at the Naval Base. Her Royal Highness is Patron of WRNS Benevolent Trust, a charity that helps women who have served in the Royal Navy.

His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent is President of The Cavalry and Guards Club and is attending the Chairman’s dinner in London.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are visiting Cambridge. Her Majesty is opening the new Rosie Hospital, a women’s centre specialising in child-birth and care.

The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall visiting Hay-on-Wye to see the 2013 Hay Festival. Their Royal Highnesses will tour the festival site, meet authors at a School Library Association event and meet local farmers and business owners. At the Festival The Duchess of Cornwall will launch the ‘Summer Reading Challenge’ and will meet local school children.

The Princess Royal is carrying out engagements in London. As Chancellor of the University of the Highlands and Islands, Her Royal Highness is hosting a reception at Buckingham Palace. The Princess is also attending a board meeting of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in her role as a Director, attending a reception for the Motor Neurone Disease Association as its Royal Patron, and visiting an event for the Bridewell Foundation as President of the Bridewell Royal Hospital. This evening Princess Anne is attending the UK Fashion and Textile Association Awards Ceremony in her role as President of the Association.

The Duke of Kent is attending the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s Annual Awards as President of the Institution.

His Royal Highness The Duke of Cambridge is attending the UEFA Congress in London to celebrate The Football Association’s 150th anniversary. Prince William is President of The Football Association, the governing body of English football.

The Princess Royal is visiting Abingdon-on-Thames for the Royal Logistic Corps’ Homecoming and Freedom Parade. The Princess, Colonel-in-Chief of the Corps, is also attending a Service of Thanksgiving at St. Helen’s Church.

The Duke of Kent is in West Berkshire for the closing concert of the Newbury Spring Festival at St. Nicholas Church in Newbury. His Royal Highness is Patron of the festival, held annually to celebrate the arts.

The Duke of Kent is visiting Wellington College in Crowthorne, Berkshire. The Duke is President of the College and is attending its Speech Day.

The Princess Royal is visiting Liverpool. Her Royal Highness is attending a Remembrance Services commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Atlantic at Liverpool Cathedral.
