Today the Knights of the Garter gather at Windsor Castle for the annual service and procession of The Order of the Garter. Founded in 1348 by Edward III, the Order of the Garter is Britain’s oldest and most senior order of chivalry.

Today Her Majesty The Queen is installing Air Chief Marshal The Right Honourable The Lord Stirrup as a Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter in the Throne Room of the Castle. Her Majesty is hosting a lunch for the Knights in the Castle’s Waterloo Chamber before a procession to St. George’s Chapel for the Garter Service.

The Royal Knights and Ladies of the Garter are Their Royal Highnesses The Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke of Kent, The Princess Royal, The Duke of Gloucester, Princess Alexandra, The Duke of York, The Earl of Wessex and The Duke of Cambridge. Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales are ‘members ex officio’ of the Order.
All are due to attend except The Duke of Edinburgh, who remains in hospital.

Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall is visiting Oxford. The Duchess is attending a special gala performance of ‘Strictly Confidential’ at The New Theatre as President of the National Osteoporosis Society.

The Cheshire County Show welcomes its President, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal today. The agricultural show, held in Tabley, Knutsford, is celebrating its 175th year.

The Prince of Wales is hosting a reception for Prince’s Trust Ambassadors at St James’s Palace today. His Royal Highness founded the Trust in 1976 to improve the lives of disadvantaged young people. Prince’s Trust Ambassadors champion the work of the Trust and engage with young people and other organisations.

The Earl of Wessex is visiting Buckinghamshire. His Royal Highness is opening the Sports Centre and Rennie Maths Building at the Royal Grammar School in High Wycombe, and the Sixth Form Centre and Milton Library at Dr. Challoner’s Grammar School in Amersham.

Her Royal Highness The Countess of Wessex is Patron of the Association of Show and Agricultural Organisations. Today the Countess is attending the 129th Lincolnshire Show at Grange-de-Lings, Lincoln.

In London, The Duchess of Gloucester is attending The East End Community Coronation Gala; opening Francis Lee Community Centre at Old Ford; and visiting St. Paul’s Way Trust School.

The Princess Royal is visiting The Royal Highland Show at Ingliston, Newbridge, as an Honorary Member of The Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland.

At the invitation of President Rosen Plevneliev, The Earl and Countess of Wessex are flying to Bulgaria today for an official visit. Focussing on children and young people, Their Royal Highnesses will see Bulgaria’s progress to deinstitutionalise care and social services. Prince Edward is also supporting work to establish the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award in Bulgaria.

The Duke of Gloucester is in Hampshire for Royal Army Medical Corps Day. His Royal Highness is attending a service at the Royal Garrison Church of All Saints followed by lunch at Princes Hall in Aldershot.
