Terrorists force David Cameron to cut short his stay at Balmoral

It may be David Cameron’s time to stay at Balmoral, but he wasn’t there long enough to enjoy The Queen’s full hospitality always extended to the Prime Minister of the day and their family in September.

On Saturday, the Westgate shopping centre in Nairobi was attacked by terrorists possibly including two or three young American men and a British woman killing more than 60 people, top Kenyan officials revealed. 3 Brits are confirmed dead, with an Australian Brit and his pregnant Dutch wife killed in the attack.  The PM described it as an ‘absolutely sickening and despicable act of appalling brutality’. On Monday Mr Cameron left Balmoral in order to chair the emergency response committee ‘COBRA’ meeting, despite only staying with Her Majesty for one night. A COBRA meeting was held the day before without him.

The attack was supposedly carried out by Somalian terrorist group al-shabab and forced the British PM to return to London in order to chair the proceedings. David Cameron tweeted: “I’m cutting short a visit to Balmoral to return to Downing Street to chair COBRA late this afternoon, dealing with the Kenya terror attack”.

Advertisment

In 2010 David Cameron and his family missed the holiday at Balmoral  when his wife went into labour early with his youngest daughter, Florence, while the family were in Cornwall.
