51-year-old woman arrested after throwing an item towards Trooping the Colour procession

A 51-year-old woman has been arrested after an item was thrown during the annual Trooping the Colour procession in Central London.

The Metropolitan Police said that the woman had been arrested on a public order offence.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: “A 51-year-old woman was arrested for a public order offence after an item was thrown towards a procession at the Trooping the Colour.

“She is currently in custody at a central London police station.”

It is unclear whether the item was aimed at a member of The Royal Family or indeed a member of the procession.

The woman is currently being held in custody.

This arrest was not the only dramatic incident of the day. During the procession back to Buckingham Palace, a 79-year-old guardsman fell from his horse.

Field Marshal Lord Guthrie, who is Colonel of the Life Guards, fell from his mount and was quickly tended to by police and paramedics.

Lord Guthrie was transferred to a London where he remains in the care of medical staff.

Because Lord Guthrie was being treated at the scene of his fall, the RAF flypast was marginally delayed.
