Set your DVRs: a Lifetime movie detailing the courtship and eventual engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will grace your television screens soon.
Titled Harry & Meghan: The Royal Love Story, the movie will highlight their romance, from the moment they meet at their blind date, all the way through their secretive dating days and the global media attention once their romance became public knowledge.
Lifetime’s Head of Programming, Liz Gateley, had teased about the movie on Sunday during the Television Critics Association’s press tour, where networks gather to discuss their upcoming projects to entertainment reporters.
Deadline reports that no one has been cast in the leading roles yet, nor is there a release date. However, predictions are that the movie will drop before their wedding in May – but the director will be Menhaj Huda, who has worked on The Royals, an E! series that chronicles the fictional lives of the House of Henstridge, the very scandalous ruling family of Great Britain.
The script has been written by Scarlett Lacey, who writes for The Royals
Movies about the royals are nothing new. Prior to the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in April 2011, Lifetime also aired a movie about their relationship.
William & Kate: The Movie was released on 18 April 2011, and was widely panned by critics, despite having huge ratings for the network.
A second film aired on the Hallmark Channel – a channel that Meghan Markle has appeared on in the past – and was called William & Catherine: A Royal Romance, which came out after their wedding.
The Lifetime special will no doubt be just one of many pieces coming out about their love life. Books have long been in the works since before the engagement was even announced, as have documentaries about everyone’s new favourite couple!
