Two men arrested for climbing roof of Buckingham Palace

Two men have been arrested after a security alert yesterday evening at Buckingham Palace, after they managed to climb onto the roof of the Queen’s official residence.

The men were seen being taken away in a police van after being arrested on suspicion of trespassing on a protected site.

The campaign group New Fathers 4 Justice have told Royal Central that they are involved in the stunt and that the two activists are still under arrest.

The protesters used a ladder to get on the roof of the Queen’s Gallery at around 15:00 on Sunday.

Police were called at about 16.30, however, the activists did not come down from the roof until 23:00.

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh were not present at the time. They were spending the evening at Windsor Castle after returning from Malta earlier in the week.

A similar incident happened back in 2004 when a protestor from a separate campaign group, Fathers 4 Justice, dressed as Batman and staged a protest on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

Fathers 4 Justice is not responsible for this protest – splinter group New Fathers 4 Justice have claimed responsibility along with Stop the War on Dads.

Both groups campaign for better rights for fathers and equal rights in divorce proceedings.

Questions will now be raised as to how people managed to breach the tight security that is already in place around the palace, particularly in light of the recent attacks in Paris.
