New details about Prince Harry’s US itinerary emerged Monday night when the Associated Press reported that the Prince is set to visit Mantoloking, a New Jersey town severely affected by Superstorm Sandy, according to its town Mayor.
Mantoloking Mayor George Nebel revealed details of the Prince’s New Jersey visit during a council meeting on Monday. The Mayor told residents and the Associated Press that the Prince and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will walk along the town’s bay front, Barnegat Lane, on May 14, before heading to a news conference at nearby Seaside Heights.
“He wanted to see the hardest-hit town in New Jersey,” Nebel said at the meeting. “He’ll arrive by car, walk along the road to see 10 houses, back in the car with the governor and gone.”
The Mayor also spoke of the strict security measures planned for the event, which will make it difficult to “get anywhere near” the prince.
Gov. Christie told radio listeners in March that he will accompany the 28-year-old prince during his visit and assured them that “nobody’s going to get naked” in reference to Harry’s last visit to the United States where he was photographed naked while playing strip billiards.
Prince Harry is scheduled to arrive by commercial flight in the afternoon of May 9. He will visit Washington, D.C., Denver, Colorado Springs, New York City, and Greenwich, Connecticut during his week-long stay.
In Washington, D.C., the third-in-line (soon-to-be fourth) to the throne will meet some 170 senior politicians, ambassadors, and philanthropists at a reception and dinner hosted by British Ambassador Sir Peter Westmacott in honour of humanitarian mine-clearance charity, HALO’s 25th Anniversary Appeal, according to St. James Palace.
As patron of HALO’s 25th Anniversary Appeal, Prince Harry is scheduled to tour HALO’s photographic exhibit at Capitol Hill escorted by Cindy McCain, HALO board member and wife of Senator John McCain, along with HALO’s CEO Guy Willoughby. Humanitarian mine-clearance is a cause fully supported and made famous by Harry’s late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.
The soldier prince will spend two days of his visit attending various events at the 2013 Warrior Games in Colorado Springs including, the opening ceremony, sitting volleyball, and cycling, as discussed by Prince Harry’s Principal Private Secretary, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton during a media briefing in March. A recent report by the Mirror stated that Prince Harry was asked to be torch-bearer during the opening ceremony.
Prince Harry will also attend events in New York City in support of the GREAT campaign and Coach Core Initiative, a program by the The Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry. In addition, Prince Harry will attend a reception hosted by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in Denver.
The Prince of Wales’ younger son will round off his US trip with a game of polo to benefit his charity, Sentebale, at Greenwich, Connecticut on May 15. Last week’s reports say that the invitation-only Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup will be attended by A-list celebrities including, actors Richard Gere and Dan Stevens; Ivanka Trump, daughter of property tycoon Donald Trump; and model Veronica Webb.
Supporting injured servicemen and women is the theme of Prince Harry’s 2013 US tour. The Prince, along with older brother Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, both serving in the armed forces, also support various causes affecting young people. His last official US visit was in May 2012.
