In a statement released by Their Royal Highnesses Prince and Princess Michael of Kent today the couple has confirmed that they are now grandparents for the first time after Lady Frederick Windsor gave birth to a baby girl in the United States of America. The statement read as follows:

“Lady Frederick Windsor was yesterday safely delivered of a baby girl at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Centre in Los Angeles. The weight of the baby was 7lb. Lord Frederick Windsor was present at the birth. Prince and Princess Michael of Kent’s family and Sophie’s family have been informed and are delighted with the news. The baby’s name will be confirmed in a few days.”

The newborn baby girl is now 42nd in line to the throne of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth realms. According to The Telegraph (UK) Her Majesty, The Queen has been informed of the birth.

The Lord Frederick Michael George Louis Windsor (aged 34) is the son of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent; making him the grandson of Their Majesties King George V and Queen Mary. He married Sophie Lara Winkleman (aged 33), now Lady Frederick Windsor, at Hampton Court Palace on September 12 2009 with The Queen’s consent. This is the couple’s first child.
