medium_8093922389His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex has become the first member of the Royal Family to visit the Duke of Edinburgh in hospital today.

The Earl of Wessex, the youngest child of Her Majesty and the Duke of Edinburgh, arrived at around 3.30pm today to visit his father today in hospital on the occasion of his 92nd birthday.

Prince Edward apparently drove himself to the hospital and parked his car outside.

This is the 5th day that Prince Philip has spent in hospital and until today, he hadn’t received any visitors. He was admitted on Thursday and is expected to remain until next week, recovering from, and receiving the results of, exploratory surgery which took place on Friday afternoon.

Gun salutes took place across the country today to mark the Duke of Edinburgh’s 92nd birthday. The National Anthem was also played on BBC Radio at 7am and 8am this morning.

Her Majesty is also tipped to be planning to visit the Duke of Edinburgh today on his birthday.

There have been no other announcements about the Duke of Edinburgh’s health recently.

The Earl of Wessex stayed for just 20 minutes before leaving, driving his own car. When asked about how the Duke of Edinburgh was, the Earl of Wessex replied, ‘well thank you’.
