At 11.15am the cortege departed the estate and travelled through the park, arriving at Edensor at 11.50 for the funeral at noon.
The Prince issued a personal statement when the Duchess, the last of the famous Mitford sisters died at the age of 94. He conveyed his sadness of her death and noted that: “We shall miss her so very much,” and that the Duchess “will not easily be forgotten.”
The Dowager Duchess was the youngest of the well-known Mitford sisters. In 1941, she married Andrew Cavendish who later became the 11th Duke of Devonshire.
