The Princess Royal is to make another return visit to the Borough of Wigan where she will meet staff and volunteers at Wigan and Leigh Carers Centre in Frederick Street, Hindley on Wednesday, 13th April.
Her Royal Highness serves as President of the carers Trust. Here, she will see firsthand how the work this organisation is doing to assist carers throughout the borough.
To accompany her during her visit will be centre chairwoman, Clare Wareing and Pauline Gregson, it’s chief executive. The centre offers carers rest and relaxation and therapeutic activities. It is a place that provides carers with friendship, support, advocacy and advice.
Princess Anne will meet with many of those who provide the carers with these services such as staff, funders, trustees, therapists and volunteers. She will also be introduced to a group of unpaid carers, both adult and youth who also receive support from the centre. Before her visit ends, she will unveil a plaque to commemorate her time there, receive a posy from a carer and be invited to sign the visitors book.
Speaking of the Princess Royal’s dedication to carers, Mrs. Wareing said: It is a tremendous boost for everyone that Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal has devoted so much time and energy to championing the cause of unpaid carers.”
She continued: “Unpaid carers are dedicated people who often have to balance their caring role with work and education. For some caring can be an extremely isolating experience with the potential for unpaid carers to feel depressed, tired, anxious and disempowered. Our carers say that having relevant, up to date information about services that offer help and support is crucial. It can make the difference between finding support and being able to cope and feeling isolated and alone.”
Mrs Gregson added: “We are delighted that Her Royal Highness is able to visit us. It is tremendous for unpaid carers, the staff and volunteers. During her visit, the Princess will be able to meet many of the adults and young carers we work with and hear about their experiences and views on how unpaid carers should be supported in the future.”
