Princess Beatrice has split up with her boyfriend, Dave Clark, friends have confirmed – ending a ten year long relationship.
Beatrice, who is daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York, reportedly separated from Mr Clark a month ago but the news has only just come to light.
According to numerous reports, The Princess’s family were ‘shocked and saddened’ by the news.
Until the birth of Princess Charlotte, Beatrice was sixth in line to the throne, meaning that she had to gain approval from The Queen to accept a marriage proposal because of the Succession to the Crown Act. This led to wide speculation that the couple could have become engaged after Princess Charlotte was born last May.
Buckingham Palace have made no comment, however, they have not denied the couple have broken up.
Last week, it was reported that Beatrice left her investment banking job in Manhattan, where Mr Clark lives. She is currently still in New York and has not returned to the UK.
Under the current arrangements, Princess Beatrice doesn’t carry out ‘official’ royal duties like some of her cousins and uncles. Her engagements are not listed in the court circular and are also not announced in advance, in fact the engagements she chooses to carry out rarely make it into the papers.
All may not be over for the couple though, as friends did however say that there was a possibility Beatrice and Mr Clark could get back together again.
This bears similarities to when the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge split up for a short period in 2007, but later rekindled.
It wasn’t the same story with Prince Harry and Cressida Bonas though. Friends originally said they might get back together as a couple, however it never happened.
