Prince Harry releases unprecedented statement ordering the media to stop harassing his girlfriend

Kensington Palace has released an unprecedented statement ordering the media to stop the harassment of Prince Harry and his alleged girlfriend, Meghan Markel.

This is the first statement of it’s kind to condemn the media in such a way. In recent weeks there have been numerous intrusions into Harry’s private life which includes the harassment of Ms Markle.

Statement in full

“Since he was young, Prince Harry has been very aware of the warmth that has been extended to him by members of the public. He feels lucky to have so many people supporting him and knows what a fortunate and privileged life he leads.“He is also aware that there is significant curiosity about his private life. He has never been comfortable with this, but he has tried to develop a thick skin about the level of media interest that comes with it. He has rarely taken formal action on the very regular publication on fictional stories that are written about him and he has worked hard to develop a professional relationship with the media, focused on his work and the issues he cares about.

“He is also aware that there is significant curiosity about his private life. He has never been comfortable with this, but he has tried to develop a thick skin about the level of media interest that comes with it. He has rarely taken formal action on the very regular publication on fictional stories that are written about him and he has worked hard to develop a professional relationship with the media, focused on his work and the issues he cares about.

“But the past week has seen a line crossed. His girlfriend, Meghan Markel, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment. Some of this has been very public – the smear on the front page of a national newspaper, the racial undertones of comment pieces, and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments. Some of it has been hidden from public – the nightly legal battles to keep defamatory stories out of papers; her mother having to struggle past photographers in order to get to her front door; the attempts of reporters and photographers to gain illegal entry into her home and the calls to police that followed; the substantial bribes offered by reporters to ex-boyfriends; the bombardment of nearly every friend, co-worker, and loved one in her life.

“Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her. It is not right that a few months into the relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm. He knows commentators will say “this is the price he has to pay” and that “this is all part of the game”. He strongly disagrees. This is not a game – it’s her life and his.

“He has asked for this statement to be issued in the hopes that those in the press who have been driving this story can pause and reflect before any further damage is done. He knows that it is unusual to issue a statement like this, but hopes fair-minded people will understand why he has felt it necessary to speak publicly.”

This is the first time either Kensington Palace or Prince Harry has confirmed the relationship. It has come to a point where the harassment is too much to handle.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated throughout the day.

    Bravo to the Prince!

  • Bergmans

Prince Harry just has the right to have his own private life and deserves respect on it ! Shame on the inelegant press !

  • Bob Smith

Much as it pains me to say so. But there are times when the press is it’s own worst enemy. Leverson anyone.

    My heart breaks for Harry.This.
constant harassment from the media and intrusion in his private life has to stop. I stand behind you Prince Harry. Fight for your right to have a private life free of this harassment. We all love you and your dedication to public service. I wish you all the best.

“This is the first story of *its* kind.” “Its”, not “it’s”. I expect more from the person purporting to be the Editor-in-Chief of a page reporting on the British Monarchy.

Also, the second paragraph of the quoted statement is repeated.

Sloppy editing… I have noticed a trend on this site.

The press bombarded his mother to no end. Now they are hounding Meghan Markel. I understand people want to know what is going on with the royal family, but this isn’t the way. All people, royal or otherwise, deserve respect and privacy. I love hearing about and seeing photos, but I would never intrude so nastily to have my curiosity satisfied.

With precious few exceptions, the media is a cesspool, an open sewer, a pit of putrefaction. They are a slimy gathering of all that is rotten in the debris of human depravity. Soulless, spineless, blights on humanity.

The scary thing is… is his mother…. We all know what happened there when the press couldn’t keep their hands off an expensive storyline… ultimately leading to the beautiful Princesses death. The media need to back off…

The commercial media is in the business of making money; it doesn’t chase stories if there is no end pay-off. The media is supplying the public with what it wants. Harry appears to have a significant fan-base, therefore any woman with whom he is in a relationship will, unfortunately, be subjected to this level of scrutiny.
Interesting that the paparazzi were, initially, blamed for literally driving his mother to her death, by an outraged public – the very same public that voraciously
consumed every image of Diana to the point of obsession.
Don’t blame the messenger. The public is responsible for this type of feeding frenzy by their seemingly insatiable appetite for gossip and images of their idols. Think about that the next time you reach for one of the sad-rags.

Not sure if the two groups overlap. I know that I rarely buy any type of “royal media”; just commemorative books which are hardly intrusive at all.

  • Cpt_Justice

Given the outrageous behavior of the modern-day media, this is only going to be the first of many. They’ll hound every girl he looks at twice into oblivion & then tear him to shreds for not being able to settle down with a nice girl!
