Pippa Middleton announces engagement to boyfriend James Matthews

Pippa Middleton – the younger sister of the Duchess of Cambridge – has confirmed her engagement to hedge fund manager James Matthews. The couple have been dating for about a year, and are planning to marry in 2017. The news broke after Pippa was photographed wearing a large diamond engagement ring earlier this morning.

James and Pippa reportedly became engaged during a trip to the picturesque Lake District on Sunday. Her family was informed about the happy news, and, according to a Kensington Palace spokesman, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are “absolutely delighted”.

Like Prince William in 2010, Mr Matthews asked his girlfriend’s father for her hand in marriage. Michael Middleton gave his blessing, saying that her and his wife Carole were “absolutely thrilled” with the news.

“They make a wonderful couple and we wish them every happiness together,” he added.

Pippa Middleton shot to fame as the maid of honour at her sister’s wedding to Prince William in 2011. It is unknown whether Catherine will return the favour, but as the Duchess has always been very close to her family, the royal couple will almost definitely attend the wedding.

James Matthews, 40, is the chief exective of Eden Rock Capital Management group. Like his future wife, he has a famous sibling – his younger brother Spencer Matthews is the star of the hit reality show, Made in Chelsea.

He and Pippa have been photographed together on a number of occasions in the past year, including at Wimbledon and while on holiday. The pair took part in the Birkebeiner ski race in Norway,a skiing marathon which they completed in around six hours.
