On Wednesday, 09th November 2016, Guillaume, Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg and his wife, Stéphanie, Hereditary Grand Duchess of Luxembourg visited an art exhibition run by the Cercle Artistique de Luxembourg (CAL).
Their Royal Highnesses were also joined at the exhibition by the Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel. The group explored each work of art intently, both the Hereditary Grand Duke and Hereditary Grand Duchess sharing a passion for art, particularly Her Royal Highness who became the chairman of the board of directors of the Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean (Grand Duke Jean Museum of Modern Art) in January of this year. The Hereditary Grand Duchess is also patron of Les Amis des Musées d’Art et d’Histoire Luxembourg (The Friends of the Museums of Art and History Luxembourg).
The annual exhibition, which opened on Wednesday in conjunction with Luxembourg Art Week took place at the Hall Hugo Victor in the capital of Luxembourg. The CAL is an association bringing together painters, sculptors, engravers and other creators in the field of visual arts, both professional and amateur that have been admitted by an international jury to exhibit their work at the CAL exhibition three times, every five years. The main objective of the CAL is to bring together the creators of different artistic expressions with the aim of supporting artistic work and education within the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Founded in 1893, the organisation gives resident artists in Luxembourg and within the greater region the opportunity to display their work within the setting of a large exhibition. The association is under the patronage of Her Royal Highness, Maria Teresa, Grand Duchess of Luxembourg.
At each annual exhibition, the CAL publishes an illustrated catalogue of the artistic pieces on display and also progressively produces an anthology of art in Luxembourg. This catalogue is available for purchase throughout Luxembourg Art Week.
