Details of Prince William’s historic trip to Jordan, Israel and Palestine revealed

Details about Prince William’s upcoming historic visit to the Middle East have been released by Kensington Palace

Prince William will visit Jordan, Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories from 24 to 28 June. It is the first time a member of the British Royal Family has visited the area in an official capacity.

Kensington Palace revealed that William’s trip will begin in Amman, Jordan on June 24th. He will stay in Jordan through the next day, continuing his visit to Amman and also visiting Jerash. He will then leave for Israel, arriving in Tel Aviv.

On June 26th, Prince William will visit Jerusalem and Tel Aviv for the day; and on the 27th, he will visit Ramallah within the Occupied Palestinian Territories, as well as Jerusalem. On June 28th, his visit ends in Jerusalem.

Kensington Palace has not unveiled a full programme for Prince William’s visit, announcing that it will be revealed in due course.

The Palace also noted that the visit comes at the “ request of Her Majesty’s Government and has been welcomed by the Jordanian, Israeli, and Palestinian authorities.”

At the time the visit was announced earlier this year, Alistair Burt, the Minister of State for the Middle East commended the visit, describing it as an “important and unique opportunity to promote diplomatic and cultural ties in the region.”

Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted at the time that, “We welcome the announcement of Prince William’s visit to Israel. This is an historic visit, the first of its kind, and he will be welcomed here with great affection.”

The President of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, released a statement saying that “We look forward to contributing to strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two peoples.”

Prince Charles was the last member of the Royal Family to visit the region when he attended the funeral of Israeli President Shimon Peres in a private capacity. The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and the Duke of Kent have also visited the area.
