Thai YouTube personality in legal trouble for comments made about dress designed by Thai Princess

A Thai YouTube personality, Wanchaleom Jamneanphol, is in legal trouble for her comments she made about the dress Thailand’s Miss Universe contestant wore which so happened to be designed by the King of Thailand’s daughter, Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana.

Wanchaleom Jamneanphol, who also goes by the nickname “Mixy Bigmouth” made negative comments on the blue gown on Facebook which later went viral.

She later removed her original post and apologised to Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana.

“Your Royal Highness Sirivannavari Nariratana, I, Wanchaleom Jamneanphol, did not have any intention to insult or disrespect the high institution,” she said, adding, “I feel deeply guilty and sorry for what had happened.”

“Mixy Bigmouth” added, “I will take consciousness and ponder before posting or spreading information on social media.”

The spokesman for the Technology Crime Suppression Bureau, police colonel Siriwat Deepor, did say a defamation complaint had been received and was currently under investigation.

Kitjanut Chaiyosburana, a politician who is contesting Thailand’s 2019 election, filed the defamation complaint on behalf of the Princess. In Thailand, any Thai citizen is permitted to file charges on behalf of another person.

Chaiyosburana remarked on Wednesday, “I think Internet idols are like an actor or actress with many followers … so if they commit wrongdoing online it should not end up with just apologies,” according to Channel News Asia.

Thailand has strict laws “lese-majeste law” that forbid the insult of embers of the Thai Monarchy or the Monarchy as a whole.

Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana, born on 8 January 1987, is the youngest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn (Rama X) and his second wife, Yuvadhida Polpraserth (also known as Sujarinee Vivacharawongse). She has represented Thailand in both badminton and equestrian in the Southeast Asian Games.

She first presented her fashion show in 2007 in Paris at the invitation of Pierre Balmain. The next year, she was able to present her own fashion show in the city. The Princess had previously presented two shows in Bangkok fashion week.
