Images released by King of Thailand in celebration of his son’s 12th birthday

His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn (or Rama X) of Thailand has released, through the Public Relations Department of Thailand, several new images to the public in celebration of his son, Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti’s 12th birthday.

A number of the photos feature the Prince, who is first in line to the throne, with his father partaking in different sporting events like hiking, skiing and horse riding. The family’s pet dog also features in two of the pictures.

His Royal Highness Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti was born on 29 April 2005 at the Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok. He is the fifth son of the King and the only child by His Majesty’s third wife, Srirasmi Suwadee. King Rama X and Srirasmi Suwadee divorced in 2014; they had been married for 13 years. Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti has six older siblings.

Although the Prince is heir presumptive and first in line to the Thai throne, he has yet to be named Crown Prince.

Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti’s 64-year-old father came to the throne after the death of the Prince’s grandfather, King Bhumibol Adulyadej (or Rama IX), who died at the age of 88 on 13 October 2016. However, this was after a period of mourning. The then Crown Prince of Thailand succeeded to the throne on 1 December 2016. He will not be crowned until later this year after the cremation of the late monarch and mourning period in Thailand ends.
