“We’ve put our man on the top” Donald Trump claims he was behind Saudi Royal shakeup

The book, Fire and Fury: Inside Trump’s White House, revealed many unflattering things about the Trump presidency. The hit book by Michael Wolff painted a picture of the Trump administration via interviews with senior aides. However, the book has also revealed that Donald Trump took credit for the recent Royal shake-up in Saudi Arabia.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman became the heir apparent to the throne following his father’s decision to depose Muhammad bin Nayef. This change threw away decades of Royal custom.

At the time of the shakeup, Donald Trump called the Saudi prince to “congratulate him on his recent elevation” and promise close cooperation.

However, the book reveals that Trump allegedly bragged to friends that they had “put our man on top.”

Just a month before the shakeup Trump visited the country and signed a multi-billion dollar arms deal.

The books authenticity has been challenged by the Trump administration, with Trump himself claiming the book was full of “lies”

Since the change in status, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has been seen as a driving force behind the implementation of popular reforms and crackdowns within the country. He is seen as being partly responsible for the unbanning of cinemas and the relaxation of the once strict driving rules surrounding women.

Saudi Crown Prince bin Salman has also recently conducted a crackdown on corruption within the country. Over 200 people were arrested and over 1000 bank accounts frozen. Those arrested range from other Crown Princes to ex-senior Government Ministers. It is thought that the crackdown was a way to consolidate power. Some of those arrested have since been released on incredibly large bails; one worth over $1 billion.

It is thought that the corruption crackdown has been positive among the population which is made up by a significant amount of young people.
