Royal guests head to Stockholm for the wedding of the year

Royalty from around Europe will gather in Sweden in June 13th for the Royal Wedding of the year. Kings, queens, princes and princesses will all be present at the Royal Chapel of the Royal Palace in Stockholm to see Prince Carl Philip, the only son of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia, marry Sofia Hellqvist.

The Earl and Countess of Wessex will be present at the wedding which is due to start at 4.30pm local time. The couple often represent The Queen at royal marriages – in 2010 they were present at the wedding of Carl Philip’s older sister, Crown Princess Victoria, and in 2013 they attended the marriage of his younger sibling, Princess Madeleine.

Also at the Royal Wedding will be Queen Margrethe of Denmark, who is Prince Carl Philip’s godmother. Her two sons, Crown Prince Frederik and Prince Joachim, will accompany her with their respective wives, Crown Princess Mary and Princess Marie.

There is also a large presence from the Norwegian Royal Family led by Queen Sonja who will be alongside her son Crown Prince Haakon Magnus and daughter, Princess Martha Louise, and their spouses, Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Ari Behn.

Two of Europe’s newest queen consorts – Maxima of the Netherlands and Mathilde of the Belgians – will be there but the official royal guest list doesn’t include any representatives from Spain, Luxembourg, Lichtenstein or Monaco.

Of course the whole Swedish Royal Family will be inside the chapel to see Carl Philip marry his long term girlfriend in a romantic ceremony which will be broadcast live on Swedish television. King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia will be hosting the whole celebrations. Also there to see the marriage will be Crown Princess Victoria, her husband Prince Daniel and their daughter Princess Estelle. The king and queen’s youngest child, eight months pregnant Princess Madeleine, will be accompanied by her husband, Chris O’Neill – the couple’s sixteen month old daughter, Leonore, will not be in attendance.

It is one of the biggest royal gatherings for several years. The guests will arrive at the Royal Chapel late tomorrow afternoon just before the bride to witness the Royal Wedding of 2015.
