Princess Sofia celebrates 34th birthday with new photo

Happy Birthday to Princess Sofia of Sweden who celebrates her 34th birthday today. To mark the day, the Swedish Royal Court has released a new picture of the Princess.

Princess Sofia of Sweden celebrates her 34th birthday today. This morning the Swedish Royal Court published a new picture of the Princess on their website and social media accounts. Princess Sofia is pictured smiling sitting on a windowsill wearing a white sweater and black trousers. The photo is reported to be taken at the family’s home Villa Solbacken. The family’s regular photographer Erika Gerdemark snapped the photo.

The Swedish Royal Court told the newspaper Expressen that the Princess was celebrating her birthday privately with close family and friends. Her sister-in-law Princess Madeleine and her family missed out on the party as the family lives in Florida, USA and is not expected to return to Sweden before the holidays.

Next week Princess Sofia will join her husband, Prince Carl Philip at the Nobel Prize Ceremony which will be hosted on Monday, 10 December in central Stockholm. The dress code for the event is white tie so we can expect to see Princess Sofia, her sister-in-law Crown Princess Victoria and her mother-in-law Queen Silvia completing their gowns with tiaras, diamonds and sashes.

Princess Sofia (née Hellqvist) was born on the 6 December 1984 at the Danderyd Hospital. Sofia was the second of three daughters to her parents Erik and Marie Hellqvist. Her family moved to Älvdalen in 1991 where Sofia spend most of her childhood. She holds a degree in accounting and is a certified yoga instructor. In 2010 Sofia co-founded “Project Playground”, a non-profit organisation trying to improve the childhood of kids operating in South Africa and Sweden.

After dating for over three years, Prince Carl Philip proposed to Princess Sofia at their home on 27 June 2014. In the afternoon the couple announced their engagement and held a photocall for the Swedish press. On 13 June 2015, nearly one year later, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia tied the knot. Then on 19 April 2016, the couple welcomed their first child, a son named Alexander. With their second son, Gabriel being born on 31 August 2017.
