Princess Madeleine of Sweden Hosts a Fairytale Party for Seriously Ill Children

On Monday 22 February Princess Madeleine of Sweden hosted a fairytale party for seriously ill children in Stockholm’s royal palace. The party was planned together with a non-profit organisation called My Special Day (Min Stora Dag in Swedish) that makes dreams come true for children and young people with serious illnesses. The organisation arranges many different events to respond to the wishes of the children, and past events have included for example pop concerts, sporting events and camps for teenagers. My Special Day depends on donations and volunteer work, and in 2015, it helped 3000 children have a special day of their own. The organisation works in cooperation with Swedish hospitals to reach the children whose dreams need fulfilling. Princess Madeleine is Patron of My Special Day.

Twelve children, aged between five and eight-years-old, were invited to the royal palace to celebrate their special day. The little girls wore colourful princess dresses and the boys wore tidy outfits fit for a prince. Princess Madeleine herself was dressed in a light blue gown that she first wore to the Nobel prize ceremony last December. The princess had even put on a tiara to truly create a fairytale-like atmosphere for the children.

Princess Madeleine’s daughter Princess Leonore, who turned two on Saturday last week, was also at the party celebrating with other children. She wore a pink princess dress and posed for photographs with the other little princes and princesses. Princess Madeleine welcomed all the children to the party at their arrival, and they were offered cake and juice. The program for the party included mainly different games and plays, and there was also a magician entertaining the guests at the palace.

Princess Madeleine lives in London with her husband Chris O’Neill and their two children, but she is currently in Sweden to support her older sister, Crown Princess Victoria, during her last weeks of pregnancy.
