Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia mourn Swedish DJ Avicii

Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden have released a statement following the death of Tim Bergling, better known as Avicii. The couple had a special bound with the Swedish DJ.

Yesterday the management of Avicii said in a statement: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii.

“The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time.”

The 28-year old Swedish DJ was known worldwide for his hits “Wake me up”, “The nights”, “Hey Brother” and many more.

Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia released a joint statement only hours after the news of the passing of Avicii was made public.

They said: “It is with great sadness that we received the news that Tim Bergling has passed away.

“We are grateful that we got to know him and admired him as an artist and the great person he was.

“He made our wedding unforgettable with his great music.

“Our warmest thoughts go out to his family.”

Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia knew the DJ personally as he performed at their private party after their wedding in 2015. He reportedly performed in the middle of the night and even got Queen Silvia to dance along.

Prince Carl Philip met Mr Bergling in Ibiza while he was on holiday. The DJ recalled: “I met him in Ibiza and we had the opportunity to hang out to talk a bit. He (Carl Philip) is such a cool and nice guy, really humble.”

Avicii also told the Swedish press about the opportunity to perform at the Prince Couple’s wedding. He said: “It will be really fun. It’s an honour, of course.”

After the wedding, Mr Bergling thanked the Royal couple for asking him to perform at their wedding. He made an Instagram post and wrote: “Thank you so much for an amazing experience and for letting me be part of your special day. Congratulations Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia. I wish you all the best.”

After the wedding, the couple stayed in touch with the DJ. The pair attended Avicii’s last concert in Sweden. In the summer of 2016 Carl Philip and Sofia were pictured singing along at Avicii’s concert in Malmö.
