Prince Alexander to undertake first official visit to his duchy

Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia will bring along their older son, Prince Alexander (2) on an official visit to Södermanland on 23 August. Prince Alexander is the Duke of Södermanland, and this will be his first official visit to his duchy.

The Swedish Royal Court announced that the Prince Couple and their son Prince Alexander would undertake an official visit to Södermanland yesterday. Upon his birth, Prince Alexander received the title “Duke of Södermanland” from his grandfather, King Carl XVI Gustaf.

On the day, Prince Alexander will inaugurate the present which he received upon his birth in 2016. In mid-March 2018, they started constructing an accessible viewpoint and road. “Prince Alexander’s Viewpoint” is an accessible trail and an observation deck at Gisesjön in Nynäs nature reserve park.

According to the governor of Södermanland, Liselott Hagberg:“The purpose of the County’s birth-gift is to create a greater availability and an increased interest in nature and provide more opportunities for recreation and fine nature experiences, regardless of background and ability.”

The site will provide information in several languages on the nature of the area. The official inauguration is expected to take place from 2 pm until 3.30 pm local time. There will be a speech by Södermanland’s governor and several activities for children. Tea will also be served.

The public is invited to join in the inauguration and has to sign up before the 20th of August.

It has now become a custom in the Swedish Royal Family to let the young dukes and duchesses take an official visit to their duchy. Princess Estelle was also two-years-old when she was joined by her parents as she visited her duchy, Östergötland. She inaugurated her birth gift, a fairy tale path, on the trip.
