Spanish Royal Family holds annual summer photo session

The Spanish Royal Family has held its annual summer photo session in Mallorca. King Felipe, Queen Letizia, Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía all posed for the awaiting photographers outside of Marivent Palace.

The family annually travels to the island of Mallorca for a summer holiday. While there, King Felipe will be participating in the 36th Copa del Rey sailing competition. However, their entire holiday will not be spent on Mallorca. They will be travelling somewhere else later on for a private vacation. As such, the location is not being revealed.

The King and Queen, alongside their two daughters, always hold a summer photocall on the island with the media. They fiercely protect the privacy of their daughters who only occasionally accompany their parents on official engagements like Spain’s national day celebrations and mass on Easter Sunday.

King Felipe’s mother, Queen Sofía, is also on Mallorca holidaying with her family. Her Majesty arrived ahead of her son, daughter-in-law and granddaughters. She has been seen on the beach with her grandchildren, who looked to enjoy wakeboarding, through her daughter Infanta Elena. However, there has been no sign of King Juan Carlos.

It will not be all play and no work for King Felipe while on this trip. He will naturally have quality time to spend with his family, but he, Queen Letizia and Queen Sofía will also be hosting a reception on Friday, 4 August. It is offered for the authorities of the Balearic Islands. The next day he will be presenting the trophies for the sailing competition. Additionally, His Majesty will hold an audience with the President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, in Marivent Palace on 7 August.

After the engagement on the 7th, the Spanish royal calendar is empty until after their private family holiday.

Their Royal Highnesses Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía are due to start school again in September.
