The Spanish Royal Family has revealed their 2017 Christmas cards.
On Twitter yesterday, Casa Real posted an image of Their Majesties King Felipe and Queen Letizia and Their Royal Highnesses Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía with the message of Christmas greetings.
The picture was taken on the same day as Princess Leonor’s first solo portrait which was revealed for her 12th birthday in October at the Royal Palace of Madrid. The photo of Leonor was taken by Francisco Gómez on the day of Spain’s National Day celebrations on 12 October.
The card has seasonal greetings in both Spanish and English which say, “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2018.” It also has the signatures of Their Majesties and their two daughters.
This year’s card broke with the tradition of Their Majesties sending out cards every other year with just an image of Leonor and Sofía. Last year’s card also included a family portrait, and many assumed this year would follow the pattern the King and Queen had set with a photograph of their children gracing the Christmas card.
Likewise, King Felipe’s parents, Their Majesties King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía also released their Christmas card for 2017.
Their card features a portrait of the Nativity by Italian Renaissance painter, Bartolomeo Vivarini in 1475.
The message of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía is only written in Spanish, but it also sends their best wishes for Christmas and 2018. The signatures of both Their Majesties is printed on the bottom.
For those who want to send a card to Their Majesties King Felipe, Queen Letizia and their daughters or to King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía, they can be sent to:
